Doctor Sleep follows Dan(ny) Torrance in his adult lives. It shows how he deals with what happened at the Overlook Hotel and his gift called “shining”. And it’s not exactly a happy life. That is, until he meets Abra, who is just like him. Together they have to defeat this group of travelling “vampires” who are after Abra’s “shining”.
I really loved reading this story. It’s a big book, but it definitely didn’t feel like I was reading a book that’s about 600 pages thick. I just flew through it and enjoyed every single page of it! Doctor Sleep is the sequel to The Shining, but it’s not just a repetition of what happened in the first book. It’s really its own story and quite original, although it deals with a kind of “vampire”. I love how King takes something that’s been milked out for years and makes it entirely his own.
Somehow I didn’t feel this connection with the characters that I just need to give a book 5 stars. That’s why I took half a star, but despite that, it was a great read!
This book was released in 2013? 2013 seems so long ago, hahaha. I actually have a copy of this book, but I have yet to read it (like 99% of books on my shelves…). I hope I enjoy it as much as you did!
