Christmas season is upon us! The days are shorter, colder but also cosier. In short, it’s the perfect time to curl up with a cheesy Christmas romance, or a murder mystery. Whatever you like, as long as the setting of the book is snowy and/or Christmassy! Today’s post is a list of my recommendations of books, per genre, to read when the snow is falling.
Romance
Miracle on 5th Avenue by Sarah Morgan
What’s better than a cheesy, feel good romance around Christmas time? I literally just finished Miracle on 5th Avenue and I think it’s a perfect book to read during the holidays. Believe me, this book will make you feel so happy and all fuzzy inside!
Horror
NOS4A2 by Joe Hill
If you’re not that into cheesy romance, then there are also some horrors that are about Christmas, like NOS4A2. I read this one in December 2017 and although I guess I’m not supposed to, I would love to visit “Christmasland” someday!
The Shining by Stephen King
When one talks about a book set in a snowy surrounding, I immediately think of The Shining. This story really made me aware of the isolated feeling one can have while being snowed in in the mountains. Add to that a crazy writer and a haunted hotel and you’re all set for a creepy Christmas!
Young Adult
Let it Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson & Lauren Myracle
I know I wasn’t that enthusiastic about Let it Snow in my review last year, but I think this is a great read for teenagers during the holiday season! It consists of three cosy, snowy stories and with time I came to appreciate it and I catch myself thinking about it from time to time (in a good way!)
Fantasy
The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
I think most of you agree with me when I say that a visit to Hogwarts is the best way to spend Christmas! It’s not a book about Christmas, per se, but it definitely will give you all the cosy feels you need around this time of year!
Contemporary
Skipping Christmas by John Grisham
I read this book on New Year’s Eve 2017 and it’s definitely become a book I’d love to reread every year. It’s quite a simple story, but oh-so funny and it really made me think about all the chaos during December!
Thriller
The Snowman by Jo Nesbø
If you want to feel like you’re all covered in snow in Scandinavia while there’s a murderer on the loose, then this is the perfect read for you. I also recommend the movie – I just felt this “chill” in the air while watching it in cinema.
Thin Air by Michelle Paver
This book made me feel isolated, just like The Shining did, but then in a mysterious way 👀 It wasn’t necessarily a scary read, but it definitely sent shivers down my spine every now and then!
Murder Mystery
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
I recommend this one because of the same reason I recommended The Snowman. The characters are stuck in a stranded train while there is a murderer among the passengers. I watched the movie before I read the book, so I already knew who’d dunnit, but that didn’t make this less of an exiting read!
Romi Reads 
I just did a post very similar to this! I guess great minds think alike 😉 my recommendations would include Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton, The Apartment by Greg Baxter, and East by Edith Pattou.
