Imagine a year without Christmas. No crowded malls, no corny office parties, no fruitcakes, no unwanted presents. That’s just what Luther and Nora Krank have in mind when they decide that, just this once, they’ll skip the holiday altogether. Theirs will be the only house on Hemlock Street without a rooftop Frosty; they won’t be hosting their annual Christmas Eve bash; they aren’t even going to have a tree. They won’t need one, because come December 25 they’re setting sail on a Caribbean cruise. But, as this weary couple is about to discover, skipping Christmas brings enormous consequences–and isn’t half as easy as they’d imagined.

A classic tale for modern times, Skipping Christmas offers a hilarious look at the chaos and frenzy that have become part of our holiday tradition.

Because I was kinda sad Christmas was over so soon and because I wanted to read one more book before the year ended, I squeezed reading Skipping Christmas into my reading schedule. It’s a quick, fun read and perfect for Christmastime!

This book is written from another point of view than the regular Christmas lover. The Kranks, mainly Luther though, want to save some money instead of celebrating Christmas. And that doesn’t just mean cutting out the presents or just saving on the Christmas feast. No, the Kranks go all the way. No presents, no new clothes, no Christmas dinner party. Nothing Christmas related whatsoever. Instead they’re going to spend Christmas on a cruise ship! Just a year without all the Christmas hassle and just … peace. But, what the Kranks didn’t realise is that Christmas isn’t that easy (and cheap) to avoid!

I quickly had the feeling like I knew where it was heading to. Instead of sending a card out to people this year, they promised to send two next year. Easy as that. Solved. Once again – nope.

All in all, in contrast to his legal thrillers, Grisham’s Skipping Christmas is a funny and light read that I might just reread next Christmas (only 356 days!)

    1. Omg me too!!! 😭 This one is really different from Grishams normal, more serious, books! So it’s a great one to read to be able to say “I’ve read Grisham 😏” haha!
