You never know what’s happening on the other side of the wall.
Your neighbour told you that she didn’t want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn’t stand her crying.
Your husband said it would be fine. After all, you only live next door. You’ll have the baby monitor and you’ll take it in turns to go back every half hour.
Your daughter was sleeping when you checked on her last. But now, as you race up the stairs in your deathly quiet house, your worst fears are realized. She’s gone.
You’ve never had to call the police before. But now they’re in your home, and who knows what they’ll find there.
What would you be capable of, when pushed past your limit?
It’s been a long time since I have enjoyed a thriller THIS much! I love that the blurb is written from a “you” POV, so you already get pulled into the story from only reading the blurb. What would I do? What would I be capable of? The blurb makes it really personal: it could happen to everyone. Which makes it even more thrilling to start!
And right from the start, the story was just downright suspenseful. The action is immediate and you just don’t know what’s waiting for you when you turn the page. One of the most important plottwists was so very sudden – I didn’t see it coming from miles away, what I normally do, but then again … it was also right under your nose all the time. And it wasn’t only that twist that got me, there were about thirty more! As a reader you get thrown from one side to the other, only to be thrown right back to where you came from. I was hooked from page one, right until the very last word.
There are quite some different characters in this story and I felt for every single one of them, except for maybe one. The motives of all the characters are explained in a way that you just have to understand why they acted the way they did, even though you don’t stand behind their actions.
As a thrillerlover, I highly recommend others to read this utterly thrilling story! Even if you’re not into thrillers as much as I am: I bet everyone has a hard time to put it away once they’ve started it.
