Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge || Update #1

2017-09-15 12.03.59

After seeing and reading a lot about the TV show called Gilmore Girls on bookstagram, I recently fell in love with the cozy show myself. I love the characters and the fact that Rory is an avid reader, like myself. I’ve seen people talking about this reading challenge inspired by the books that are featured in the show. It consists of a total of 339 books (!) and I’ve made it a personal goal to eventually read all the books on this list, mostly because a lot of the books on there are books that have been on my TBR for a long time or because I feel like I just have to read them someday.

I thought it would be fun to keep you guys (but mostly myself) up-to-date, every once in a while, on how I’m faring at this reading challenge! Up until now I have read a total of 33 of 339, so I still have a long way to go. Most books I have read are books that were assigned during my Literature study, so that helped a lot.

These are the books I have already read:

  1. 1984 by George Orwell
  2. Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
  3. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
  4. Atonement by Ian McEwan
  5. Beowulf
  6. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
  7. Candide by Voltaire
  8. Carrie by Stephen King
  9. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
  10. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
  11. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
  12. Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer
  13. The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
  14. The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
  15. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
  16. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
  17. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
  18. Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
  19. Howl by Allen Ginsberg
  20. In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
  21. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
  22. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
  23. Lord of the Flies by William Golding
  24. The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
  25. Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
  26. Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
  27. On the Road by Jack Kerouac
  28. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
  29. Rapunzel by the Grimm Brothers
  30. The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe
  31. The Shining by Stephen King
  32. Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut
  33. Snow White and Rose Red by the Grimm Brothers

Yep, this is already quite the list, so I won’t repeat this list in the next update, but just add to it!

As you can see, it’s a list with really diverse genres, from fairytales to horror. It mostly consists of classics/literature, but there are also some biographies and nonfictions!

There are printable lists to be found on the world wide web, but I got a really clear one from Mom’s Small Victories. It is alphabetical and it has tick-off boxes!

Have you already joined the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge? Or have you already finished it?!

Or have you joined another reading challenge? I’d love to hear and find out about more different reading challenges, because I’m obsessed with lists and ticking off tick-off boxes, ha!
